In an Academic Exchange, international students are enrolled in the USM and attend the same classes as full-time students («Sansanos» and «Sansanas»), for one or two semesters.

With very few exceptions, all undergraduate courses and programs at the university are open to foreign students. In this context, each student can enroll in regular courses according to his or her academic interests, level of Spanish and requirements of his or her own university.

The minimum number of credits to complete during an academic semester, for those who participate in an exchange program taking regular courses, must be at least 15 SCT and a recommended maximum of 30 SCT.
